The recruitment process

I was offered the job following a 10 week internship. In order to apply for it there was initially an online application form with a number of longer questions. Following this there were online test and then a phone interview. I was then invited to an assessment centre during which I had to complete a group task, a written task and an interview. Following this I was offered a place.

My career history

I completed an internship between each year of university, one as an admin assistant, one in professional services (business-to-business marketing) and finally the one at Nestle which led to my current role.
During my time at university I was also a mystery shopper, doing alcohol and customer service compliance testing.

Where I hope to be in 5 years

It is my aim that when I come off my grad scheme in two years’ time I will be a brand manager, following on from this in the very long term I aim to get experiences in different product categories. I would also be interested in undertaking placements within different areas of Nestle such as sales as I feel this will be very valuable in terms of giving me a bigger picture perspective.

My advice to students considering work

My main piece of advice would be to get as much experience as you can whether this is voluntary or paid. Not only does it give you more to talk about in interviews it also shows that you have been proactive in terms of your career.

Be curious. Whether that be reading publications such as marketing week, looking more closely at products and advertisement whilst you are out and about or just thinking about what motivates you to buy the products you do over others.

What I do

What I do on a day to day basis is very varied; this is something w which I really enjoy. Major areas which my role centres around are:
- Packaging development
- New product ideation
- Agency briefing
- Budget management
- Brand planning

Skills I use and how I developed them



Extracurricular skills:
Communication and project management are key skills for me in my job as the majority of the work I do involves co-ordinating with many different groups of individuals. For me this was something I developed whilst at university by taking part in many different societies. It was also something I developed whilst at work as I initially found the project management side difficult however as I result I undertook training which has significantly helped to improve and develop my skills.

What I like most

I like seeing the products I helped to develop reach the shelves.
