Where I hope to be in 5 years
I would like to move into management and more project worker roles.
My advice to students considering work
Start thinking about it earlier rather than later (it's what everyone tells you but you think you don't have time as you have final work to do). Realise that after uni, most of your time is spent in a job and appreciate and utilise the time you have as a student before you end up in a job you might not like.
What I do
I run a project for 16-18s in a homeless charity. My job is to work directly with young people, running one to one workshops, group workshops about life skills and group activities such as rock climbing, art workshops, trips. I provide support with emotional issues, drug problems, antisocial behaviour, broken families, depression.
Skills I use and how I developed them
Psychology degree and experience in working with people with learning disabilities.
Degree skills:
Analysis and data collection presentation skills have been helpful.
Extracurricular skills:
Working with people, compassion, patience are skills I developed.
What I like most
It is flexible working hours and I manage myself (although this is what I find very hard!).
What I like least
It is too broad, I haven't got time to specialise in one thing, I am spread very thinly.
What would I change? I would not have gone into sales in Feb following uni. I wasted valuable time. I also would have liked to have continued formal learning in form of evening classes or taken a job which would provide be with a qualification.
