A day in the life of a Senior Consultant in the United Kingdom

How I found out about the job

Prospects website

Where I hope to be in 5 years

Recently been promoted to Senior Consultant. Good career prospects at Detica with 6 monthly pay reviews.

My advice to students considering work

Get relevant experience whilst you are an undergraduate. Having interviewed many graduates, it really does make a difference, although it's not vital. At the very least make sure you are doing things other than your course.

What I do

I'm a Business Analyst at Detica. I sit between the client and the technical team, getting the desired solution from the customer and then describing that to the technical team to build. I now lead a team of people performing this task.

This is only one example of a business role at Detica - there is a variety. For more information see the careers website.

Skills I use and how I developed them

My degree in Computer Science. Detica require a numerate background such as maths, physics, computer science etc.

Degree skills:
Transferable skills - I don't necessarily use the content I picked up on my course, however, the techniques and skills I learnt are transferable.

Extracurricular skills:
Teamwork, leadership, communication, through SOC's and sports teams.

What I like most

The communication, the opportunity and community within Detica.

What I like least

Nothing...honestly!
