A day in the life of a Channel Manager UK & Ireland in the United Kingdom

I wanted to work for a technology solutions provider that is dynamic so I had to continually learn new products, concepts etc.

Briefly describe the organisation you work for

Hanwha Techwin, founded as Samsung Techwin, is a surveillance and optoelectronics company. It is a subsidiary of Hanwha Group. The company employs 4,501 people and is headquartered in South Korea. Its totals sales in 2014 were 2,615 billion South Korean won.

What do you do?

I am responsible for the UK & Irish distribution channel.

I generate pricelists, train my customers sales teams, work on marketing strategies, sales strategies etc.

Furthermore I collaborate with our logistics team to ensure our pipeline is transparent meaning we can always service our customers and end users.

Reflecting upon your past employment and education, what led you to your current career choice?

I wanted to work for a technology solutions provider that is dynamic so I had to continually learn new products, concepts etc.

Is your current job sector different from what you thought you would enter when you graduated?

No.

Describe your most memorable day at work

My first day at Hanwha, the cumulation of nerves and excitement.

Are there any challenges associated with your job?

Working with people from a different culture, learning customs and attitudes towards business.

What’s your work environment and culture like?

Very Korean!

What extracurricular activities did you undertake at university and what transferable skills did you develop through these?

I undertook Chinese language & many of the seminars on promoting yourself online.

What would you like to do next with your career?

Move up the corporate ladder.

What top tips do you have for York students preparing for today’s job market and life after graduation?

Make sure that the industry you wish to work in is a growth sector. Try to ensure that your work can make a difference.
