Reflecting upon your past employment and education, what led you to your current career choice?

Attracted to working in telecommunications for a large enterprise where my role would evolve every two years or so

Is your current job sector different from what you thought you would enter when you graduated?

Greater variety and diversity of role than originally anticipated

Describe your most memorable day at work

Leading a high performing team to deliver a project in record time, avoiding any impact to the business, with great recognition of a job well done (had lots of these good days)

Are there any challenges associated with your job?

Building knowledge and learning to apply new technologies faster than I did yesterday

What’s your work environment and culture like?

Inclusive culture, working alongside world leading experts to solve the big complex challenges

What extracurricular activities did you undertake at university and what transferable skills did you develop through these?

I just focused on being good at mathematics and teaching myself learning skills, those you will need all your working life. You should never stop learning.

What would you like to do next with your career?

Currently focusing on building professional project management and agile capabilities and skills across my part of the organisation

What top tips do you have for York students preparing for today’s job market and life after graduation?

You will achieve more as a team than as an individual, although being really good in specific areas means you get to work across many teams and areas as that expertise is sort out.

What topics from students are you happy to answer questions on?

Project management (complex/infrastructure programmes) Energy sector. Neurodiversity.
