A day in the life of a Goverment Officer in Cyprus

Briefly describe the organisation you work for

I am working for Cyprus Goverment as an officer in the depatment of Service for the Displaced Persons.

What do you do?

I am officer, responsible for the preparation and submission of client requests. Answering calls and emails, assisting clients to prepare and submit their requests. It is a position which requires specific skills like good management, time management, be organised, and be a good listener.

Reflecting upon your past employment and education, what led you to your current career choice?

Various circumstances lead me to the current situation. After graduation I did a lot of Volunteer Service before I got employed by the government.

Is your current job sector different from what you thought you would enter when you graduated?

Yes.

Describe your most memorable day at work

We have the best team working together, this motivates me to wake up in the morning.

What extracurricular activities did you undertake at university and what transferable skills did you develop through these?

During the university I joined to the Hellenic Society and I helped on various volunteering projects.

What top tips do you have for York students preparing for today’s job market and life after graduation?

1) Don't panic if something went wrong . 2) Say yes to any job opportunity, no matter if it is not related with your studies. Every job opportunity will assist you to develop your skills further.
