A day in the life of a Polyvalent Social Worker in India

Briefly describe the organisation you work for

The work has me on my toes all the time and that's the reason I enjoy doing it! It is also helping me learn and giving me ideas for my PhD!

What do you do?

I am responsible for children in the care facility. I adhere to government regulations and see they are implemented in the homes

Reflecting upon your past employment and education, what led you to your current career choice?

I have a curious mind and it led me to several career paths. I work towards research and practical development. Hence, I am always curious and looking towards more opportunities ahead

Is your current job sector different from what you thought you would enter when you graduated?

In my opinion I don't think so. I am where I want to be. I am still discovering my ideas and ways.

Describe your most memorable day at work

I work with children of different age groups. I have way too many.

What’s your work environment and culture like?

Very friendly and approachable

What extracurricular activities did you undertake at university and what transferable skills did you develop through these?

I was the Academic Representative and Course Rep for Politics department. I have been the Student Ambassador as well. These activities have helped me develop leadership skills and knowledge.

What top tips do you have for York students preparing for today’s job market and life after graduation?

Have an open mind! And yes, please follow your dreams. There will be ups and downs, but you'll find your way.
