My advice to students considering work

What I do

I am a Navigating Officer in one of Her Majesty's warships. I ensure that the Ship is where it needs to be in order to carry out its mission be that war fighting; conducting maritime security operations; providing humanitarian aid; or any other task that the Royal Navy may be required to undertake.

Skills I use and how I developed them

Degree skills:
Analytical skills, presentation skills, written work for report writing.

Extracurricular skills:
The leadership and management experience obtained through running the University Sailing Club has been extremely useful.

What I like most

Life in the Royal Navy is very varied and the travel opportunities are excellent.

What I like least

The hours are long and you spend a lot of time away from home.
