A day in the life of a Assistant Manager - Room Service & Cafe Sante in the United Kingdom
Where I hope to be in 5 years
I have already been promoted twice: Server to Manager in Training to Assistant Manager. I hope to become a Manager within two years.
My advice to students considering work
There's no rush.
My advice about working in my industry
Hard work pays off
What I do
Working in a hotel, 5 days a week, shift work.
In charge of the Room Service department in the absence of the manager.
Supervising/providing leadership to the team, scheduling, training, payroll.
Skills I use and how I developed them
Part-time hotel experience whilst at University.
Degree skills:
Group work - has helped with team work.
Extracurricular skills:
Travelling - moving around the world growing up.
What I like most
Meeting new people - those I work with and guests as well as the opportunity to travel.
What I like least
The hours.
What would I change? Taking some time off after university - trying out different things before settling.
