Ryan is a member of the Air Pollution team at SEI York working on research projects funded by the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC), the UK Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF), the German Organization for International Development (GIZ) and other initiatives being developed by SEI. Ryan is engaged in actions such as assisting national and local governments in the planning of strategies to achieve development benefits by reducing impacts on human health, crop yields and contributing to the global drive to combat climate change.
As an economist with a background in cost-benefit analysis, Ryan is interested in research topics related to energy and environmental economics, governance and policy.
Ryan completed a PhD focusing on shipping emissions and Arctic air pollution in the Department of Geography & Sustainable Development at the University of St Andrews. Through his previous research Ryan has been affiliated with the Arctic Research Centre and Marine Alliance for Science and Technology for Scotland (MASTS).
