Professor Gabriele Griffin

Professor Gabriele Griffin (PhD, MA, BA) is Professor of Gender Studies at the University of Hull (UK) and co-ordinator of the project.  Her previous research experience includes the successful co-ordination of the EU funded project ‘Women’s Employment and Women’s Studies’ (www.hull.ac.uk/ewsi).  She has held various academic posts in a number of British universities, including Professor of English, Kingston University; and Head of School of Cultural Studies and Professor of Women’s Studies, Leeds Metropolitan University.

Professor Griffin has worked collaboratively with European colleagues for many years, contributing to three of four volumes on The Making of European Women’s Studies, published by the University of Utrecht and arising out of the collaboration of the ATHENA Thematic Network.  Recent publications include Contemporary Black and Asian Women Playwrights in Britain (Cambridge UP, 2003), and Thinking Differently: A Reader in European Women’s Studies (London: ZED Books, 2002; co-ed. with Professor Rosi Braidotti from the University of Utrecht). She is co-founding editor of the journal Feminist Theory (Sage).
