Double league table success for Psychology

Department of Psychology confirms its place among the UK's most highly regarded departments and the world top 100.

This week the Department of Psychology saw two league table successes, ranking 9th in the UK in the Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2022, and equal 95th in the world in Times Higher Education's World University Rankings 2022.

Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2022

The annual THE World University Rankings compare universities and subjects and ranks them according to learning environment; research volume, income and reputation; research influence; international outlook; and innovation. The methodology is carefully recalibrated for each subject, with the weightings changed to suit the individual fields. This year, THE ranked 568 universities in the subject of Psychology.

Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2022

Published annually, the Times University Guide ranks 131 UK universities by undergraduate degree subjects according to teaching quality; student experience; research quality; entry standards; graduate prospects; Firsts and 2:1 degrees; completion rates; student-staff ratio; and spend on academic services and student facilities.

The rankings are based on official data collected by the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA), the National Student Survey and the Research Excellence Framework 2014.

In total, six subjects at the University were ranked in the UK top 10; Archaeology and Forensic Studies (4th), Biological Sciences (10th), English (5th), History (9th), Nursing, including Midwifery (7th) and Psychology (9th).
