Royal Institution talk

Posted on 12 January 2015

Professor Sven Mattys delivered a public talk on his research on understanding speech.

On 20th January 2015, Professor Sven Mattys was one of several speakers from Europe taking part in a public event entitled ‘Good listeners and smooth talkers’ at the Royal Institution (RI), London. In everyday life, communicating to others can be demanding. For example, attempting to communicate in a noisy environment can be challenging for both speaker and listener. Through a series of talks and interactive demonstrations, the event aimed to give an overview of how people provide effective communication and how listeners are able to understand this communication. Sven’s talk focused on the interaction between listening and cognition.

The RI is a charitable organisation whose aim is to increase public engagement with science. They hold regular public events ranging from master classes, demonstrations and lectures which enable scientists to share their knowledge and research findings with the general public.
