My research occurs at the intersection of public policy, sociology and research evaluation. It focuses on the production, use and evaluation of policy knowledge, particularly on cultures of evaluation and emerging methods of impact assessment.

My recent work, funded by an ESRC Future Research Leaders Grant and a BA/Leverhulme Grant, investigates the assessment of research impact in policy knowledge contexts, including the World Bank, London School of Economics and J-PAL. It examines emerging cultures of research evaluation and their underlying procedures and structures. My previous research investigated how policy research organisations in Australia, the UK and the US produce and disseminate knowledge. It considered how credibility is gained in policy research via ongoing negotiation of symbolic resources from more established fields.

Prior to joining York, I was an ESRC Research Fellow from 2016-2019 in the Department of Sociology at the University of Cambridge and a Research Fellow at Lucy Cavendish College Cambridge. In 2018/2019 I was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Weatherhead Centre for International Affairs, Harvard University. I hold a PhD in Sociology from the University of Cambridge, funded by a Commonwealth Scholarship and the Cambridge Overseas Trust.
