Dr Matt Barlow
Associate Lecturer



Matt joined the Department of Politics as an Associate Lecturer in 2021 after submitting his PhD for examination in Summer 2021. Prior to starting this role, Matt held a Research Associate position on the GCRF-RCUK funded project: Thanzi la Onse (Health for all) and on the GCRF project: Gender and Health Systems after Covid-19: The Role of Policy. Matt has worked as a Research Assistant in the Interdisciplinary Global Development Centre (IGDC) on GCRF projects: The natural resources economy in South America: Extraction, Sustainability and Citizenship and NGO Data for more inclusive development. Matt has taught at the Institut Barcelona Estudis Internacionals (IBEI), a graduate school at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona. In 2019, Matt spent a period as a Visiting Researcher at the Universidad Torcuato de Tella in Buenos Aires. Prior to his PhD and his switch to academia, Matt worked in International Events and Facilities Management and many of the organisational skills and attributes that are required in this busy and fast-paced industry he has transferred to his teaching and research.   
Matt was one of the founding members of the Working-Class and First-Generation committee at the University of York in 2019.  



Matt's research interests are broad but include the Political Economy of Development, International Political Economy, Latin American Politics, Regionalism, Global Health and the Political Economy of Gender.
