Speaker(s): Dr John Roberts, University of Manchester
Dr John W Roberts, from the Dalton Nuclear Institute, University of Manchester, will give a seminar in York on Monday 13 June.
Following the earthquake and tsunami that so badly affected the nuclear reactors at Fukushima, attention has again focused on the future of nuclear energy in the UK and the world. Two reactors - the Westinghouse AP1000 and the Areva EPR - seem to be dominating the potential market, but how would these designs perform in extreme circumstances? The talk will analyse the timeline of events at Fukushima, and provide assurances on current reactor design philosophies.
