Colloquium: Structured light - structured atoms

Wednesday 6 May 2020, 3.00PM

Speaker(s): Professor Sonja Franke-Arnold, University of Glasgow

Whether as photos or QR codes, images are ideal information carriers.  Using digital holograms, we can shape the amplitude, phase and polarisation profile of light, generating arbitrary complex vector beams. I will introduce the concept of structured light, show how we generate and characterise it in the lab, and discuss its interaction with atomic gasses.
