The annual physics-focused recruitment fair took place in Exhibition Centre, University of York on 10 October 2018. The fair attracted 44 employers and 700 students from 12 regional university physics departments. Employers attended from a wide range of sectors, including digital film and animation, patent law, energy, engineering, automotive and many more. In the exhibition space there was also a Careers Zone where students could connect with their home institution careers team for advice.
Students prepared in advance of the fair through a workshop that outlined actions before, during and after the fair, as well as through a careers fair app. The app. enabled students to view interactive floor plans, filter employers by type of vacancy and sector and click through to employer websites. A greater number of fringe events were also organised this year. Students had the opportunity to connect with employers and placement students through 5 Q&A panel discussions. The panel discussions covered a variety of sectors and topics, including 'Year in Industry Placements', 'Medical Physics and Healthcare Innovation' and 'IT, Software Development and Artificial Intelligence'. Students also had the opportunity to listen to a presentation by CERN and engaged with several employers on a 1:1 basis through CV Clinics.
The 2019 fair will take place at the University of Nottingham. For further information, please contact Dr Andrew Hirst, email@example.com.
