Posted on 24 August 2017

The work of a physics academic Dr Alessandro Pastore in collaboration with physics final year student Matthew Shelley has been accepted and published in a special issue of Journal of Physics G named "Emerging Leaders".

The Emerging Leaders initiative across the Journal of Physics series brings together exceptional early-career researchers across all of core physics, and is a showcase of the outstanding original research being undertaken by the next generation of top scientists. This inaugural edition is part of the series' 50th anniversary celebrations.

An emerging leader is a top researcher in their field who completed their PhD in 2007 or later (nine years excluding career breaks). They are identified by the Editorial Board as the most exciting researchers in their generation.

One of the figures completed by Matthew during his M.Phys project will even appear on the cover of this special volume!

Matthew was awarded in July 2017 by the Department of Physics recieving the O.S Heavens prize for best student and the MPhys Goodwin Project prize for best final year project, this achievement shows that the quality of York students is also being recognised at a International level.
