Successful biophysics research public outreach event held at York

Research in Focus event

Researchers from the groups of Dr Laurence Wilson and Dr Pegine Walrad (Dept. of Biology), in collaboration with ceramics artist Tristan Lathey, staged a public outreach event on Heslington East Campus. The event welcomed around 100 members of the public, staff and students and introduced several topics in cutting edge biophysics research. Exhibits included a 3D movie in the immersive ‘3Sixty’ exhibition space, large-format scientific images and demonstrations of laser optics and drone technology, alongside abstract ceramic representations of some of the microscopic subjects. The speakers were introduced by Prof Brian Fulton - Dean of Sciences, who also chaired the discussions after the event. Artwork and exhibits produced for this event will be available for future outreach events and open days.
