University of York
10-12 December, 2018
Aimed at new postgraduate research students and those more experienced in research but new to magnetism, this three day school will provide training in the basic principles of magnetism and magnetics and an introduction to theory and modelling, experimental techniques, and metrology. It will also provide an excellent opportunity for participants to meet other members of the UK magnetism community.
The first two days of the school will consist of lectures covering topics ranging from fundamental magnetism to advanced experimental techniques similar to the format of previous Winter Schools. There will be a third day devoted to a hands-on tutorial on VAMPIRE, a package which aims to make the atomistic modelling of magnetic materials accessible to all. We hope this will be very useful for all students in broadening horizons, and really encourage students to attend all three days.
The organisers kindly acknowledge support from the IoP Magnetism Group, the UK & NI Chapter of the IEEE Magnetics Society (student travel) and the Collaborative Computational Project on Computational Magnetism (EPSRC funded).
