Speaker(s): Professor Sarah Hutton, Honorary Visiting Professor, Department of Philosophy
Abstract: There have always been women philosophers, but their contribution to philosophy has rarely been noticed. However, a remarkable development in the past few years has been the drive to restore them to visibility. In this lecture, I discuss how historians of philosophy have contributed to this development, and consider some of the challenges involved in recovering them, as well as the implications of the reappearance of female philosophers for philosophy and how we think about philosophy’s history.
