Narrative Testimony

Wednesday 17 October 2018, 4.00PM to to 5:30pm

Speaker(s): Dr Rachel Fraser, University of Oxford, Exeter College.

Narrative Testimony

Much of our testimony comes packaged as narrative: when we tell each other things, we are telling each other stories. And our beliefs, as well as our speech, often exploits the narrative form: we believe stories, as well as tell them. In this talk, I sketch a novel account of what it is to believe a story, and trace the implications of this view for the epistemology of testimony.
