Reason, Revolution and Rights: workshop 4 in the series, "Reason, Right, and Revolution: Practical Philosophy between Kant and Hegel"

Saturday 8 December 2018

The French Revolution and the resulting declarations of the rights of man and of the citizen posed two important questions to the early post-Kantians: Is a right to revolution entailed or precluded by the principles of Kantian ethics? Do the principles of Kantian ethics entail a commitment to human rights, or might one endorse aspects of Kant’s moral theory while denying the existence of human rights? This workshop considers the attempts by the early post-Kantians to answer these questions.
