Postgraduate study

‌The School is a collaboration between the departments of Politics, Economics and Philosophy. We provide world-class opportunities for interdisciplinary postgraduate study and research.  We are the only institution to offer both MAs and research degrees in PPE.

Our MA programme extends our established tradition of excellent integrated, interdisciplinary teaching in PPE to postgraduate level. At the centre of all of our MA courses is a core interdisciplinary module - ‘the PPE of Social Choice’ - which is jointly taught by staff from the three departments.

Our MA courses are ‘streamed’, so that you can choose to focus on your area of interest or follow a balanced education across the three disciplines. There is a lot of flexibility within the course structures for you to choose modules that appeal to your personal interests.  The diverse nature of both our courses and students’ interests result in a wide range of careers being pursued after graduation, including international development, finance, law and research.

We are delighted to be able to offer one AHRC fee-waiver bursary to a candidate seeking to begin an MA with us in 2017, with a view to continuing to a PhD. This would cover tuition fees at the UK/EU rate, but is also open to applicants from overseas. Find out more about the White Rose College of the Arts and Humanities Research Preparation Masters bursaries.

Our unique research degree programme allows you to pursue research at the interdisciplinary intersection of the three PPE disciplines. The programme builds on the strong research environment and doctoral programmes in York’s three PPE departments. We offer two research degrees: the MPhil in PPE and the PhD in PPE.
