York Society of Engineers Lecture

A brief presentation on the history and railway structures of the Whitby - Pickering Line, 1836 – present day.

In ‘Train of Thought’ Dr Ron Pickering will explore the initial thinking behind the development of the Whitby-Pickering line and its impact on rural Newtondale.

In the light of this history, Railway Civil Engineer, Nick Beilby, will look at structures ancient and modern on this railway, including the replacement of Bridge 27 in 1908 and the completion of the new roof at Pickering Station in 2011.

Tea and coffee will be served from 7pm.
