One Planet Week

Hemp. Straw. Timber. Earth. All of these are materials that can be found in Yorkshire - but would you ever consider using them to build your house? The places where we live and work form a vital background to our daily lives, but with the UK construction industry accounting for almost 45% of UK carbon emissions it is time for a drastic rethink of how we build. Do we really need to rely on highly polluting, energy intensive materials like concrete, or imported building products such as plastic insulations, when we have a viable alternative growing in the field down the road?

Native Architects are a York based practice with extensive experience building with sustainable bio-based materials; they would like to tell you about some of their work and what they are doing to try and encourage natural building in Yorkshire.
