YUSU Refugee Week

We are excited to welcome United Rescues for an evening of stories and information about their work. United Rescues is a humanitarian organisation that is operated fully by volunteers. They work with crisis management and communication in order to help those seeking refuge in Europe from the war and poverty in their home countries.

The Aegan and Mediterranian seas are dangerous to cross without proper equipment and the boats and life vests provided by smugglers are subpar and overcrowded. By maintaining contact with refugees and translators in the area they can track boats, triangulate communications with coast guards, rescue organisations and volunteers that can provide a helping hand when or if the worst happens.

After the immediate danger is averted and the refugees are safely on peaceful territory, they provide assistance in various areas in order to help as much as possible. They maintain connections with aid organisations and people who help track missing family members and friends, have access to shelter and medical equipment and help people get on the right track on their way to a safe and new life.

After the talk there will be time for questions, tea, and cake.
