The Leeds Flood Alleviation Scheme is an innovative scheme designed to protect against flooding from 4.5km of the River Aire downstream of the train station. The Phase 1 works, now largely complete, include traditional defences and replacement of two historic fixed weirs with two new movable weirs to provide a 1 in 100 year standard of protection. Stephanie will provide an overview of the scheme including the history and development of the unusual design, the complex process of constructing within a river channel and the principle of operation of the new weirs.
