Dr Glenn Hurst, Director of Studies for Natural Sciences in Chemistry

Developing a lateral understanding of concepts across multiple subjects enables scientists to solve the most challenging interdisciplinary questions we are facing. A degree in Natural Sciences at York sets up students well in order to accomplish this.  

Dr Glenn Hurst

Glenn Hurst develops, implements and evaluates the efficacy of novel and exciting instructional strategies and learning resources to confer a deep understanding of subject matter within chemistry with a particular focus on interdisciplinary learning. 
 
Glenn’s research focuses on green chemistry education at all levels in collaboration with the Green Chemistry Centre of Excellence at the University of York. Through this, Glenn adopts a research-led approach to teach and communicate green chemistry in new ways with international impact. 
 
As part of this work, Glenn has been recognised as a Social Media Superstar in Higher Education by JISC and has been nominated as a fantastic teacher by students through The Excellence Awards.  
 
Glenn is the Director of Studies for Natural Sciences in Chemistry and is responsible for coordination of support teaching, leading laboratory courses and facilitating transitional activities for students studying Natural Sciences in Chemistry. Glenn is also the Chair of the Natural Sciences Teaching Committee.
