Rachel Gray (Baroque cello)

Profile

Biography

Rachel Gray studied music at University of York, specialising in period instrument performance during postgraduate studies, her cello teachers including Jennifer Ward Clarke. She plays principal cello with Yorkshire Baroque Soloists and performs with ensembles such as 18th Century Concert Orchestra, Manchester Baroque, Haydn Festival Orchestra and Newcastle Baroque. Recordings include Bach’s Passions and B minor Mass with Yorkshire Baroque Soloists, with whom she has performed in festivals in Germany and the Czech Republic.  She is also an experienced cello tutor of continuo and ensemble playing and is delighted to be teaching MA cellists and working with the Baroque Ensemble here at the University of York where her love of Early Music has been nurtured and developed since her student days.
