This talk considered noise as a category of sound responses; including definitions used by acousticians and engineers, and in the context of music. It also discussed the use of alternative metrics - particularly the emerging field of multimodal biophysiological response - to suggest how these tools might be adapted to musical metering and control signals in creative music contexts.

Dr. Hauke Egermann and members of the YMPG ran two sessions in which participants responses to four musical excerpts were measured using the Music Departments audience response system. The research, commissioned by Danish technology company Bang and Olufsen, took place in the University of York Music Department on the 14th of August.

The launch of the University of York Music Science and Technology Research Cluster took place on Friday the 25th of November 2016 in the Rymer Auditorium at the Department of Music at the University of York. The 50 odd guests were treated to an evening of introductory talks about the cluster and current topics within each group.
