Music Department Senior Lecturer, Martin Suckling, has been nominated for the highly prestigious Prince Pierre de Monaco Musical Composition Prize.

Awarded every three years, past winners of the Prince Pierre de Monaco Musical Composition Prize include George Benjamin, Thomas Larcher and Jonathan Harvey; the 2019 shortlist sees Martin alongside such luminaries as Brian Ferneyhough, Beat Furrer and Helmut Lachenmann.

Martin's flute concerto, The White Road, was commissioned by the Royal Scottish National Orchestra for their principal flautist Katherine Bryan and has already been widely celebrated, hailed as 'a sonic feast' by the Scotsman at its 2017 premiere and shortlisted for a Scottish Award for New Music in 2018.
