A collection of piano miniatures, recorded at the National Centre for Early Music in York, has just been released by the Naxos label and is currently number one in the Spotify classical new releases chart as well as being named in Apple Music's 'classical A-list'.
The collection was recorded and edited by Dr Jez Wells, Senior Lecturer in Sound Recording, and produced by David Power who is an alumnus of the Department. The pieces, performed by Duncan Honeybourne, trace the development of British piano miniatures over the century from 1915 to 2015 and include works by Leo and Evangeline Livens, Howard Skempton and David Power. The final piece for piano and electronics, by the late Peter Reynolds, was co-produced by the composer and Jez. Jez also developed the reverberation modelling system which is used for the first time on this release. A leading UK audio software company is currently working on a product based around this system which will be available soon.
