Music Honorary Fellow at York has composed a piece of music for concert in London.

Honorary Fellow, Neil Sorrell

Neil Sorrell’s (Honorary Fellow for the Department of Music at the University of York) setting of the Gayatri Mantra, commissioned by the Asian Music Circuit as a contrapuntal choral raga response to Allegri’s famous Miserere, will be performed in a concert of Hindu devotional vocal music on Friday 29 June at 7.30pm in Cadogan Hall (London) by ‘Rubythroat’, a choir from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, directed by Linda Hirst.

The concert will also feature another response to this unusual and unique challenge by Francis Silkstone, a former music student at the University of York, and the whole project will be discussed during a symposium, Music of the Three Worlds, at Asia House (London) on Tuesday 3 July
