Undergraduate student awarded commission by York Composer Collective

Thanks to the generosity of Mr Jamie Woodruff, the York Composer Collective have been able to award their first commission to undergraduate student, James McIlwrath. The new work will be premiered in Spring 2018 and is based around the concept of "breath".

A specialist in the world of computing, Jamie Woodruff played the cornet from a young age with the Accrington Boys Brigade Brass Band and this generous donation demonstrates his continuing support and enthusiasm for the arts.

The York Composer Collective was formed by Korean composer Dr Chang Seok Choi and has recently been taken over by PhD student, Oliver Pickup. The YCC are also very grateful to Professor Roger Marsh, Dr Desmond Clarke and Aaron Moorhouse for their input in selecting the winning commission.
