I Fagiolini premiere new work by William Brooks on Radio 3
Posted on 14 April 2016
Robert Hollingworth and Department associate ensemble I Fagiolini gave the first performance of a new Shakespeare setting by Professor William Brooks on Monday 11 April 2016
The performance was broadcast live on BBC Radio 3 from Wigmore Hall London. The sonnet set by Brooks is an irreverent set of puns on the word 'Will’. Brooks’s equally irreverent setting mixes Schubert, country-western, Bobby McFerrin, and “How Dry I Am” into a quodlibet—a 'what-you-will.'
I Fagiolini performed the work alongside contemporary settings by Janet Wheeler and Adrian Williams, and English madrigals from the early 17th century.
The concert can be heard on BBC iPlayer
until 10 May 2016.
