Martin Suckling awarded £100k Philip Leverhulme Prize

Department of Music lecturer Dr Martin Suckling has been awarded a Philip Leverhulme Prize. These prestigious awards are made to "recognise the achievement of outstanding researchers whose work has already attracted international recognition and whose future career is exceptionally promising".

‌Martin is an internationally-performed composer writing highly distinctive music that places communication alongside innovation at the heart of the creative process.  His compositions are informed by research in music psychology alongside the study of past and present repertoires; he is particularly interested in microtonality as a means to enhance expression.  Martin's response to the work of the ceramic artist Edmund de Waal, Psalm, will receive its premiere by the Aurora Orchestra at the Royal Academy of Arts on 9 November 2015, as part of their On White festival.
