James Cave's opera 'Returns' selected for Rough for Opera Festival

Posted on 18 August 2015

AHRC-funded PhD Composition candidate James Cave's opera, 'Returns', has been selected for performance at the 2015 'Rough for Opera' Festival at the Cockpit Theatre, London.

A 20-minute excerpt of the opera will be presented on 3 November 2015 by a cast including York alumnus Nils Greenhow and exciting contemporary opera performer CN Lester, as well as the composer. James' work is based on an electrifying script by soldier-turned-playwright-and-peace-campaigner Joshua Casteel, whose work attracted international attention before his untimely death in 2012.

The opera is directed by acclaimed director David Gothard, who worked with Samuel Beckett and John Cage, in his capacity as Creative Director of the Riverside Studios, Hammersmith, and is conducted by recent York PhD graduate Jon Brigg.
