Julian Arguelles shortlisted for 2014 BASCA award

The composer and saxophonist, whose octet is ensemble-in-association at the department, has been nominated in the Contemporary Jazz Composition category.

Julian teaches saxophone in the department and regularly gives concerts,x leads performance classes and runs composition workshops with Music students. His piece, Hocus Pocus for jazz quartet, had its first performance at Fleece Jazz in Colchester and is nominated alongside works by Django Bates and John Butcher.

Department alumna, Kerry Andrew, has also been nominated for a BASCA award for her community project, Woodwose: A Community Chamber Opera.

The winners will be announced on 3 December.
