University of York Consort of Viols join Pellingmans' Saraband for a festive concert at NCEM

Posted on 3 December 2012

The University of York Consort of Viols join Pellingmans' Saraband (aka staff instrumental teachers Jacob Heringman, lute and Susanna Pell, viol) for a festive evening of Elizabethan and Jacobean music.

Featuring vibrant, virtuosic variations and grounds for viol and lute alternating with dances by Anthony Holborne including The Cradle, The New-yeeres gift, Heigh ho holiday and As it fell on a holie Eve, the concert recreates the private musical pleasures of Christmas time in seventeenth-century England.

The concert forms part of the York Early Music Christmas Festival and takes place on 6 December 2012 at 7.30pm at the National Centre for Early Music, St Margaret's Church, Walmgate, York YO1 9TL.
