BASCA shortlist features York composers

The shortlist for the 2011 British Composer Awards includes four composers associated with York. Dr Thomas Simaku is one of three nominees for the ‘instrumental solo or duo’ category for his work ‘Soliloquy IV’ for bass clarinet. New lecturer Martin Suckling has received nominations in both the chamber music category for his piece 'To See the Dark Between' and the vocal category for 'What Shall I Give?'
Former student Anna Meredith is nominated for her community education project ‘Night Shift’, and Emily Hall for her music for the outreach project ‘Fables – a film opera’. The winners will be announced at a ceremony in London on November 30th, and a special programme devoted to the awards will be broadcast on Radio 3 on Sunday December 4th.
