Upon entering our department, you can feel the creative energy from 200 students and a large team of staff. The Department of Music is world-leading, engaged in a range of music research, creation and performance.
York is the first choice for performance, composition and scholarships. Our courses are able to give you the opportunity to specialize in an area you are interested in, through your own research project. Through our "Project System", we teach in small groups, based on our academics' current research.

If you are applying for our undergraduate courses and you are leaving Senior Secondary School in China with a Senior Secondary School Graduation Certificate or Chinese University Entrance Examination (Gaokao), you will need to take a qualification that allows you to enter directly into UK higher education. This could be A-Levels or the International Baccalaureatte.
In order to apply for a postgraduate taught course, you will need an average of 80% in your bachelor degree.
