August 1 - Ruth Lee

This week's Musical Figure is Ruth Lee. Ruth graduated from York in 2019. She recently performed her composition 'Dyr'at Edinburgh Harp Fest and has been chosen as one of the four UK Harp Association Emerging Artists for 2020/21. Ruth will also feature in World Harp Congress 2021! Find out more about Ruth.

July 25 - Jamie Wright

This week's Musical Figure is York graduate and bartione Jamie Wright. Jamie recently joined the GRAMMY-winning The Swingles. He's also developed his own music theory app, Muso, and during the COVID-19 outbreak he co-founded the Stay at Home Choir with conductor Tori Longdon.

July 11 - Stuart O'Hara

Meet this week's Musical Figure, bass-baritone Stuart O'Hara. Stuart completed his MA in Solo Voice Ensemble Singing at the University under Robert Hollingworth. Previously Lay Clerk at Liverpool Meteropolitan Cathedral and Bass Songman at York Minster, Stuart recently started a new role as Lay Vicar at Choir of Westminster Abbey.

June 21 - Samantha Ege

Meet this week's Musical Figure, musicologist Samantha Ege. Samantha has just finished working on her PhD on the African-American composer Florence Price at York and next year, Samantha will be joining the University of Oxford as the Lord Crewe Fellow in Music at Lincoln College!

June 13 - Omar Shahryar

Meet this week’s Musical Figure: Omar Shahryar. Omar recently finished his PhD – ‘Composition of opera for young people’ at York. He now works as a composer and workshop leader at some of the world's leading opera houses, including Glyndebourne and Royal Opera House.

June 6 - Josh Madine

Meet this week’s Musical Figure: Josh Madine! Since graduating from the University Josh has embarked on a career as a producer and singer-songwriter under the alias Almanac. Drawing on elements of folk, funk, jazz and choral music, his music has a truly unique soundworld.

May 21 - Joel Jarventausta

This week's Musical Figure is award-winning Finnish composer York graduate Joel Jarventausta. Listen to the musicians of Birmingham Contemporary Music Group and Royal Birmingham Conservatoire NEXT early-career study programme perform his Piano Concerto, 'the sighing of the winds is softer than ever'.

May 15 - Stef Conner

This week’s Musical Figure is former member of The Unthanks and award-winning composer Stef Conner! Since completing her PhD at York Stef has carved a niche for herself, creating contemporary music infused with ancient poetry and traditional song. Find out more about Stef.

May 6 - Charlotte Yandell

This week’s Musical Figure is Charlotte Yandell! Since graduating from York in 2019, Charlotte has set up Kiddleydivey UK. She is currently working on a lock-down version of 'We’ll Meet Again’ by using clips sent into her by care home residents.

May 1 - Jake Muffett

Introducing our first ever musical figure, Baritone Jake Muffett. Since graduating from the University Jake has performed at Opéra de Baugé, Northern Opera Group, Welsh National Opera and Glyndebourne. Check out Jake’s #CORONA-PROJECTS series on his YouTube channel.
