The need to forgive criminals

Tuesday 20 October 2015, 6.30pm in Room P/X001, Physics

Speaker: Frances Crook, Howard League for Penal Reform

David Cameron described the idea of prisoners voting as one that made him physically sick. In this lecture Frances Crook argues that civic engagement is a responsibility that cannot be abandoned because someone is incarcerated. She will suggest that civil legislation and civil rights should apply in prison in as much as they are not curtailed by the walls of a jail. Prison is a temporary stage in a person’s life that should not interrupt citizenship.
