Sam

Sam, MA student

I decided to study in York because of its top teaching quality and great research environment, with wide coverage. It does help that the city is beautiful and student-friendly.

This course is interdisciplinary beyond its core module, which introduces a totally new approach to familiar issues each week. You can pick modules from across the Humanities. This interdisciplinary experience prompts reevaluation of students' methods and outlooks each week in the most productive way imaginable: because it is always assumed that the student is an initiate to the field of enquiry, the most essential premises and foundations of each discipline are debated. This means everyone is at the same starting point, and everyone, including the lecturers, finds the discussions rewarding. It's the most self-improving course you could hope for!

With this in mind, it's a brilliant platform to PhD study, which is what I hope to continue with once I graduate.

Sam is now undertaking a PhD at the University of Leeds.
