IMA Gold Medal for Mathematical Virology

Professor Reidun Twarock FIMA was presented with the Gold Medal by IMA President Alistair Fitt CMath CSci FIMA on 26 June 2019 at the IMA Summer Lecture.

Rediun’s Gold Metal lecture was on Geometry as a weapon in the fight against viral disease. This fascinating talk showed how a mathematical insight into how viruses assemble has led to new mathematics and applications in antiviral drugs.

After the enthusiastic applause that followed her talk, Alistair Fitt thanked Reidun and pointed out that next time someone comments that your maths is very impressive, but won’t cure their cold, you can point out that Reidun’s mathematics will.
