Family businesses across the UK came together in York for the inaugural National Family Business Show organised by Family Business United.

Professor Carole Howorth opened the show by busting some myths and misconceptions about family businesses. Based on her research across 20 years examining governance and entrepreneurship in family businesses, she explained the dangers of generalising about family-owned businesses which represent two thirds of all businesses in most countries.

Margaret De Valois, Director of Western Pension Solutions said "Super talk on family businesses from Carole Howorth setting out the three circle model, why communication is vital and why NEDs don’t always improve performance."

Paul Andrews of Family Business United tweeted "Insight from Carole Howorth on the family business sector and some of the challenges faced by family firms was spot on."
