'Black Snow', a documentary film about England's worst mining disaster at The Oaks colliery in Barnsley on 12 December 1866, made by Professor Stephen Linstead of York Management School, is one of only five films nominated for the highly prestigious UKRI/AHRC Best Research Film of the Year Award.
The winning film will be announced at a ceremony at the headquarters of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts on 8 November 2018.
Based on this extensive research work, Stephen Linstead's film tells the story of the Oaks disaster and looks at the effect it had on the Barnsley community.
