York Management School students win the UK national L’Oréal Brandstorm Competition 2016 and make it through to Global Finals in Paris!
A team of students from The York Management School (TYMS) have won the UK National L’Oréal Brandstorm competition 2016.
Juliana Akrobetu, Olivia Batty and Meg French, MSc Global Marketing students at TYMS, took the stage at L’Oreal’s UK and Ireland’s (UK&I) head office in London as team Meraki Marketing to represent York in the UK finals of L’Oréal’s Brandstorm competition 2016. Out of 60 entries in the UK, 11 of which were from York, Meraki Marketing was one of 8 teams selected to present their ideas at the finals in London. Their task consisted of developing an integrated marketing communications strategy introducing a digital disruption to attract 15 to 25 year old consumers to L’Oreal’s La Roche-Posay (LRP) brand.
In the morning, Meraki Marketing impressed a panel of three judges composed of Sian Allmark (Digital Manager LRP), Elly Sandberg (Product Manager LRP) and Nina Van Der Beugal (Senior Recruitment Manager), who put them through to the evening finals. At this stage York knocked out teams from Imperial and Bath Management Schools. After the initial excitement the team sat down with the judges and received positive feedback and suggestions for adjustments looking towards the evening event.
In the evening, Team Meraki were fitted with microphones and took the stage against competition from St Andrew’s University to present in front of 50 L’Oréal UK&I executives. Juliana, Olivia and Meaghan delivered a perfect presentation to a panel of judges composed of Michel Brousset (Managing Director UK&I), Yannick Raynaud (Managing Director Active Cosmetics Division UK&I), Stevie Cameron (Marketing Manager LRP), and Catrin Roberts (HR Director, Active Cosmetics Division). After brief deliberations team Meraki Marketing were announced as winners of the UK competition.
Juliana, Olivia and Meaghan will now be travelling to Paris on 30th June to compete in the Brandstorm International Finals 2016 against over 40 other countries to represent L’Oréal UK and, of course, The York Management School. The Brandstorm International Finals 2016 will be live streamed. The School will be tuning in supporting Team Meraki Marketing to take it all the way to the winning spot.
The Brandstorm competition has been embedded in the assessment on the Masters in Global Marketing at York, the students commented, ‘This gave us the edge against Bath and Imperial as we were able to leverage theoretical concepts to illuminate our creative ideas’.
